A Pirate Festival is a mighty fine time!  Here is a list of 2011 Pirate Festivals for pirates, wenches and younguns to enjoy. Raise the swarthy flag of adventure and set sail for a host of swashbuckling events for buccaneers, privateers and wenches of all ages to experience.  Many have top-name quality entertainment,  historic  reenactments, improvisational actors and stunt people, parades and music, contests and more.  They are fun ways to celebrate and play, share pirate camaraderie, dress up in pirate and wench costumes and take part in  uniquely memorable events. Check out a pirate festival near you and see what fun you can have swaggering as a pirate  and sassing as a wench while you swashbuckle through a memorable day of play!  Here is a list of some of the Pirate Festivals around the world. Arizona

ISLE DE CORSAIR Pirate Celebration 2011 (April 3, 2011) Come one come all to this fun pirate celebration.  Dress with pirate costume flare and in your best wench finery for a day of flashy fun! There will be a belly dance contest to show off your dancing skills. There will be a kid’s treasure hunt for the young pirates. There will be food and drink (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas and water) provided.

California

Cutthroats of Corona Pyrate Festival – Corona, CA (May 21 & 22 2011) This fabulous fair is based on the time period from 1660 to 1720, the heyday of the Buccaneers and the Golden Age of Pirates. Costumed Pirates will be docking and flocking to this “Port Corona” for a weekend of games and revelry. Three stages to watch Pirates swashbuckling, exciting cannon demonstrations, good grub and grog for pirates and wenches, adventurous treasure hunts, mock wife auctions, and lots of pirate booty to collect.

Sea Chantey Festival – San Diego, CA (May 21 & 22, 2011) The Maritime Museum of San Diego is throwing Captain Sunny the sea lion a Buccaneer Birthday Bash! This is a full weekend of Endless Piratical Delights with Carnival games, costume contest, costume parade, maritime dancers, a cannon firing, sword fight demonstrations, craft activities, a treasure/scavenger hunt, scary stories and re-enactors pirating and playing all around. Gold Coast Pirate Faire – Ojai/Lake Casitas, CA (September 17&18 and 24&25 2011) The largest pirate faire on the west coast with three stages of entertainment, merchants selling plunder, shows, food n grog and plenty of fun fer the youngun’s too.

San Diego Pirate Festival – (June 25 & 26 2011) Visitors can expect a rollickin good time as the visit the village of Porta de Diego on the ground of the beautiful Sheraton Four Points.  There will be lots of merchants, food, grog and plenty of hell raisin Pirates a plenty.

Pirate Invasion of Belmont Pier – Long Beach, CA (July 2 & 3, 2011) Join with the largest  Gathering of Pirates, scallywags, free booters, Privateers and buccaneers ever to come ashore. There be music, song, dance and live theatre and much more to entertain Pirates and visitors alike.  Shop for rare and unusual treasures at the pirate market, well stocked with booty from the 7 Seas.  Twice a day you be seeing the grandest battles this side of Tortuga, with cannon and musket blazing, pirates clashing with sword and pistol as they fight over treasure and wenches.  A visit to Alfredo’s pirate pub and a tankard of ale will calm your nerves before your visit to the pirate village with hundreds of costumed scallywags and wenches. Ye best be planin’ to stay late on Saturday night to attend the first annual Pirate Film Festival and view the classic film “Captain Blood” on their giant outdoor screen.

Northern California Pirate Festival, Vallejo, CA (June 18 & 19, 2011) Father Day weekend and Admission is Free.  This is the 5th anniversary of the largest Pirate Festival in the Country. Pirate Entertainers, Musicians, Singers, Swordfighters, Craftspeople, and more turn Vallejo’s waterfront into a Pirate Town the likes of which hasn’t been seen since Tortuga! Come on out and have a swashbucklin’ great time at the SF Bay Area’s only Pirate Festival! Find

Pyrate Daze Convention Aboard the Queen Mary – Long Beach, CA (August 27 & 28, 2011) Combining the Golden Age of Pirates and the Romantic Age of Steam Punk, this event will go down in the captain’s logs as the most unique gathering since Jules Verne met Blackbeard on haunted shores! Come see a plethora of eclectic gadgets, gizmos and booty for sale – Be witness to a Zombie invasion.

Colorado

Renaissance and Pirate Festival – Pagosa Springs, CO (July 15 – 17, 2011) Annual Renaissance and Pirate Festival in Town Park.   A great event for the whole family.  World class hot springs town, Pagosa Springs, summons you to their “Renaissance & Pirate Festival”  Plenty of activities for children, a castle bounce house, an artisan fair that includes clothing, shields, leather crafts, fairy wands, masks, jewelry, and much more. There will be performances by the Gypsy Players, jugglers, an escape artist, belly dancers, gypsy guilds, musical performers, and a concert at 3:00pm Saturday with the Big’ns. Fresh cask beer provided by Pagosa Brewing Co. will be served in the tavern as well as delicious foods. Test your skill in a live chess tournament, or travel around the park village on a camel.

BrethrenCon 2010: A Pirate’s Life For Me – Denver, CO (September 17 & 18, 2011) A two-day celebration of pirates and privateers, heroes and villians!  Panels to teach and share your piratical interests, games of skill and chance, musical guests, feasting, merchants selling everything from cannon to corsets, contests, wenches and rum!

Florida:

St. Arrrgustine Pirate Gathering, St. Augustine, FL (October 28, 29 & 30, 2011) The Crews of the Black Heart, Ancient City Privateers and Brothers of the Coasts lead this celebration of the Golden Age of Piracy in the nation’s oldest city. Events include a pirate mutiny, weapons demonstrations, sailors encampment and a thieves market, among pirate activities.

Florida Pirate Festival, St. Petersburg (November). Vinoy Park in St, Petersburg is the home for this pirate-themed celebration, based on an 18th Century tale of pirates battling against forces of law and order.

Pirates in Paradise Festival, Key West (Nov 25 – Dec 4, 2011) Re-enactors and stunt men from around the country invade the island for a host of escapades. Visitors are likely to encounter the likes of Anne Bonny, Bawdy Be, Braze, Cascabel, Sir Henry Morgan, The Pyrates of the Coast, the Bone Island Buccaneers (Key West’s own pirate crewe) and other nefarious Brethren of the Coast.

Gasparilla Pirate Fest, Tampa (January21 & 28, 2011). Legendary pirate Jose Gaspar is the namesake of this rowdy celebration, an annual tradition in Tampa since 1904. In addition to the festive mock invasion, Gasparilla celebration includes a week’s worth of activities.

The Pillage at the Village at the Florida Renaissance Festival, Deerfield Beach (February). The Pillage at the Village is a featured attraction of the annual “pirate’s weekend,” part of the extended run of Renaissance Fest events that take visitors back in a time capsule.

Pirates Sack St. Augustine, Searle’s Raid, (March). This reenatment commemorates the 17th Century Raid by Captain Robert Searle. It start at St. Augustine’s Downtown Plaza and heads north.

Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, Fernandina Beach (May). A pirate parade, featuring members of the Fernandina Beach Pirates Club, kicks off the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival Shrimp, a tradition for more than 45 years. There’s also arts and crafts, fine arts, live music and, of course, shrimp.

John Levique Pirate Days, Madeira Beach. (June). This fest celebrates the discovery of John’s Pass by turtle farmer John Levique after the hurricane of September 1848. Activities include a Pirates Ball, children’s and adult’s costume contests, a village-wide treasure hunt, pirate invasion followed by a parade and “pillaging” of the village.  A great costume wench opportunity!

Billy Bowlegs Festival, Boynton Beach (June). Local and regional bands, food, arts and crafts, pirates, a torchlight parade, children’s activities and fireworks are part of this annual pirate-themed event.

Drake’s Raid, St. Augustine (June). Re-enactment action is based at a 16th century encampment at the Fountain of Youth. Come dressed in your pirates costumes and wench outfits for more fun. Military drills and other period demonstrations lead to a battle with swords and black powder muskets in the historic Plaza de la Constitucion in downtown St. Augustine.

Treasure Coast Pirate Fest, Stuart (September). A family treasure hunt, adult and children’s costume contests, pirate-themed merchandise, food and three stages of live entertainment and pirates are highlights of this free festival.  Get gussied up in your favorite pirate wench costume for a fanciful time!

Oregon:

Portland Pirate Festival – Sept 3 & 4, 2011  – The Portland Pirate Festival has something for everyone. You’ll be immersed in the the best of pirate culture as Cathedral Park transforms into a bustling dock-side village full of wandering buccaneers, redcoats, clowns, jugglers, and balladeers.
